Ci siamo riusciti.

The Senate Finance Committee began searching for a compromise on how to deal with the estate tax’s uncertain future. The tax, which is applied to inherited assets, is scheduled to disappear in 2010 only to come back in 2011 at the higher exemptions and rates that were in effect prior to 2001, when Congress cut the estate tax. Groups representing family owned businesses have urged Congress to make estate tax repeal permanent, but even their supporters concede that’s not going to happen. “We can’t get that done,” said Sen. Jim Bunning, R Ky. “I support repeal, but we need certainty in this area,” said Sen. Max Baucus, D Mont., who chairs the Senate Finance Committee. At a Nov. 14 hearing, the committee heard from billionaire investor Warren Buffett, Nevada rancher Dean Rhoads and Iowa manufacturer Eugene Sukup. Buffett, chairman and CEO of Omaha, Neb. based Berkshire Hathaway, recommended keeping the…

I have never been much in favour of online shopping. The idea that the ancient physical delight of strolling the marketplace or bazaar and taking in its sights and smells might one day be replaced by clicking and dragging from a desktop is one I have always found more repugnant than convenient. But that was before I found out aboutWhat is Etsy? If you ask its founder, 27 year old Brooklyn based Rob Kalin, Etsy is “a childhood word from a Fellini movie” that he chose because “it embodies the curiosity of imagination” (the naughty Kalin has also playfully told the press that Etsy comes…

That means the Honda Civic, which is unquestionably the best compact coupe sold in America. But the new Focus is as ungainly as the Civic is sleek and futuristic. That’s because Ford didn’t spend the money to change the Focus’s underlying structure, but instead grafted on a new exterior. Ford’s executive director for design, Peter Horbury, admits that the car’s resultant proportions are not as ideal as they would have been in a “clean sheet of paper” design. Ford’s stylists seem to have worked overtime to mitigate this situation by frantically adding numerous “character lines” on the hood and side panels, bumpers that look like they were sawed off at strange angles, and a silly plastic “applique” on the front fender. The overall design is disjointed and gives the impression that change was made simply for…

Engineers are tech experts capable of short circuiting enemy weapons and hacking computer systems. As with most RPGs, you’ll gain experience as you interact and explore your surroundings. As reward, you receive experience points you can use to upgrade your specific skill set and unlock additional powers. Throughout the game, you’ll access an easy to navigate mission computer, where you can gather info on new missions, modify weapons and armor as well as manage your skill sets. Mass Effect’s presentation compliments the story wonderfully, with intricately detailed landscapes and an epic score. Lifelike facial expressions and convincing voice acting help sell some of the game’s more intense story moments. Finding cover plays a huge role in the combat. You can also issue orders to the other two members of your party through basic squad commands like ‘target’ or ‘take cover.’ Unfortunately, the action on the battlefield doesn’t…

Compared to an entry level BMW 1 Series, this is bargain basement stuff and comparable in many respects to something far more mainstream such as a 1.6 litre Ford Focus. If you
